Summer Swimmies

Life, Women's Fashion

I’ve been scouring the racks this summer to find the perfect swimmies. Between our Mexican Friendcation last month and our Texan Famcation this month I was in need of a swimsuit re-boot. Here are some I loved, and others I bought:

This adorbs j crew swimsuit cover up is embroidered, and I’m obsessed. I wore one similar from j crew in Mexico and I felt like a beach goddess.

As always I’m still obsessed with floral prints. This one being from Forever 21. or Forever 24 in my case.

What about you, lovlies? Have any summer items you’re drooling over?

East Bound and Wardrobe-less.

Moving, Women's Fashion

I have lived in Austin for 2 years, Texas for 17+ and the mid to southern states indefinitely.

Although I love the north, and also the Europe, I’ve only ever bought winter items that will last that season. This is obviously because my money was better spent on the hotter months. This method was solid, some might even say sound…. Until I realized that we’ll be moving to a winter wonderland in T-minus 6 months.

Now, I’m scouring to find the best, semi-well-made affordable clothes to get me through the next several winters. So as everyone else is releasing their summer wish list, I will be displaying:

What I need to get me through the next 4 dreadful winters in the north east….list.

These boots from Zappos: Affordably priced at $75 these red kicks are perfect. They’re waterproof, can be worn over or under jeans and they make a statement when the rest of your fashion statement is bundled and hid.

I’ll admit, I’m not that sporty of a person, but I am always envious of the girls that sport the Patagonia and Columbia jackets and coats. Luckily, my sweet father-in-law bought me a fuzzy Columbia fleece. I wear it incessantly from October through March. On my Winter Wonderlist I am adding a heavier version like the one above. Hopefully I can wear it if I go on a run, or at least run down the street for clam chowder.

As I assume I’ll be working in an office in BOS for that reason this jacket has it all. Buttoned or unbuttoned It is stylish while still having some weight to keep you warm. Not to mention it’s from my favorite website right now.

ombre sweater

I’m adoring this ombre sweater from F21. More-so, I love that this outfit could be transitioned easily from office to streets. Add a scarf and rain boots for the commute to work, or add a chunky necklace and some bright lips for after work drinks.

A few more sets of thermal PJ’s. I have some neon green ones, and I’m completely obsessed. In the winter months you have to pry me out of them.

Scarves on scarves on scarves.

winter office jacket

This jacket in camel color would be perfect for office or date, or really anywhere you’re headed. I’d probably have to order XXXL if it’s from an overseas vender.

thick tightscute tight

Cute and (or) wooly tights.

And finally, some odds and ends of other miscellaneous items I love/need.

I’m positive I’ll be adding to this list more in the future, I’ll especially need to brainstorm more office attire. But this is the best I could do in one sitting. What do you think? What are your winter must-haves?

The Return of the Ever-Loved #fashionfursday

ATX, Women's Fashion

About two years ago I was fortunate enough to nanny for the two most adorable two-year old twin girls.

Every day their little mouskateer voices would squeal in sheer delight over the littlest things.

“Ohhhh miss Macy look at that barrette in your hair! Isn’t that the most beautiful thing you ever saw?!”

Despite being the adult I felt like a princess every time their eyes came my way.

I began dressing for them, and educating myself at the same time.

Thus birthed the hashtag #fashionfursday

Because their perfect little mouths couldn’t all the way pronounce the “th” yet.

For today’s #fashionfursday I’ve gathered some instas of Austin street style, and intent to get my butt downtown to capture some live feed of it.

My friends, what are you wearing today?

@thexoxomm and hashtag #fashionfursday to let me know.

Moms, fashionistas, worker bees. I wanna see them all.

The Summer Skinny

Health, Women's Fashion

Hello friends.

How was your weekend?

As someone who is married to a college student, I feel like I get to fully indulge in the upcoming week that is spring break.

Thank the sweet heavens.

This time last year I believe I wasted money and time by seeing Spring Break, the movie.

This year, I will be smarter, I will read more, and I will see something truly entertaining, like The Veronica Mars Movie.

Now, for the true point of my blog: The big ol’ “D” word.

Hate it. Never been good at it. There was this magical time in my life when I was vegan for about 2 years, but then I stopped, and haven’t been able to get a grip since.

I was like an addict coming back to the needle for the first time, except my needle is cheese, and my heroin steak.

“I’ll be better this week” I swore to myself time and time again, but the conviction came when I realized there had been a 20 pound increase since I said, “I Do”.

Now notably, most everyone looks back at their wedding photos with a desire for their thinner self, but I thought I was above it. I thought I was invincible with my vegan powers and determination to be the woman my Husby married. Surprisingly, most, if not all the weight was stacked on in my veganism. Being vegan did wonders for a very long time, and then just as suddenly as the weight came off it began to slowly stack back on.

Total Transparency, that’s what y’all are getting right now. The two photos above are the transformation from May 2012 to July 2013. (I am pictured far right on both) And although there was no photo’d bikini body from the earlier photo, you get the picture.

I do not use these photos to shame or to motivate myself because I love my body to much to think such harmful, gateway thoughts. What it did was provide a clear depiction of how much I wasn’t paying attention to the needs of my body.

During this time I was eating out every weekday at least once and every weekend for every meal. The excuses would be broad if I started to list them. “I’M in school”, “I’m too stressed to think about tomorrow’s lunch”, “I’m tired of only eating salads”, are a few that I used more frequently than not.

Despite the reality check I got in seeing the above photos, I was mortified at the thought of starting yet something else new in the midst of school and work, and Husby’s schedule. So I decided to wait until August, and then the Hubs said he would jump on board if I just waited until January.

So I waited, and let the decision be up to him when I would treat myself better and with more respect. How very silly, I soon realized. If I was going to get fit I was going to do it because I wanted longevity, energy, and a bit more self respect. I knew from previous experiences how much I was going to hate the first few weeks back at the gym. What I didn’t consider was how much more I would hate it with 20 extra pounds. I groaned and I moaned, but I started to reap the benefits. I’ve got a ways to go. It’s still really hard for me to give up that night wine, or cheese plate, but I know my body. I know what it needs and I know that what I have done in the past (the eat anything, drink anything you want lifestyle) was slowly poisoning my mind, body and soul.

A few weeks ago I came up with an brilliant plan. The 5 stickers to surprise method.

This is the calendar I put together for my sticker challenge. Feel free to print and share. I’ll get the sources of the quotes for anyone interested.

Alright, fine, my mom came up with a version of this plan to keep her kindergardener’s motivated throughout the year.

One week- five stickers. That’s my goal. If I work out and behave in my eating for 5 days in one week, then I get a surprise of my (semi) choosing. I gave a list to my Hubs of appropriate surprises and he monitors the calendar on the reg encouraging me and making grand promises of what will come. This past week I made it 4 stickers before I had a little fall on a high beam and ruined one of my tiny toes.

This week though, this is the week I get my 5 little pink stars. Toe or shine. Planet Fitness here I come.

Be encouraged friends. Take note of what your body needs. Not everyone needs to be that size two, but everyone needs to be rounded, balanced and conscious of what’s happening below the neck. (or around the neck area if you gain weight like me)

Ze Lady Oscars

Women's Fashion

You thought I forgot, right?

Nope, I just went on a “yes” rampage and over committed myself this week.

As promised the Oscar nominees are as follows:

Lupita Nyong’o for stealing the show. From her humbling speech, to her darling charm, Lupita had me mesmerized the whole night.

Cate Blanchett for being a neutral/natural beauty. Cate is never at the front of the tabloids for her fashion. She has remained a nameless face for a few decades, but it’s not for lack of talent, or beauty. She possesses both in a profound way. FINALLY she was noticed at this awards show. Brava, Cate for not plastering on makeup, and also for picking the simplest of colors and making it ravishing.

Drew Barrymore (even though this is from the Golden Globes) for being the best preg on the red carpet these days. Every year I cringe to see what pregnant celebs will shove themselves into. They typically do one of two things: way over think it with bold fabrics and sharp lines, or they opt for the spandexy apparel. I admire how candid she is in her pregnancy cravings, it’s rare you find a celeb gushing about their cravings without the media bashing the next day.

Kate Hudson for the plunge. Kate has this trademark on lockdown since she wore that plunging back-line dress in How to Loose a Guy in 10 Days.            Which you should rent again right now.

Emma Watson for best coming of age. I don’t know that I’ve ever been this excited to watch someone come of age. Let’s face it, for most people in her position, they would’ve peaked in the teen series, and then been in rehab a year later. It has been so much fun to watch Emma gracefully transition into more mature roles and even funner is to watch her mature into her own style. She has the “it” factor in a way that doesn’t get overshadowed from roles past.

Sandra Bullock for clean lines. I admire both Lupida and Sandra for their ability to pick a dress with such beautifully shaped clean lines. Here sandra is seen in one of the most form flattering dresses of the night. Hugs in just the right places, and then A-lines out with just the right amount of train. The shape is A++, but then to have it in that color is just flawless. I love everything about this dress.

Here are some good runner up from that night that didn’t quite make my list. It may, or may not have anything to do with how much I like/dislike them as a person:

xoxo and happy Thursday.

The Asians know where it’s at..

ATX, Life, Men's Fashion, Women's Fashion

I believe I’ve mentioned my obsession with adopted babies- Asian babies in particular melt my heart.

I mean, really… Can’t we all just agree this google image baby is the cutest little squishy there ever was?! And I’m not even a baby person.

Besides the indisputably cute babies, there’s something else I’ve noticed about Asian culture– they’re as trendy as it gets when it comes to the realms of fashion. Here’s some street fashion I found floating around the interweb:

I love seeing the combination of something very adult and something that is reminiscent of childhood.

What do you think of Asian fashion?

The Baggy/Skinny Combo

Women's Fashion

Hello lovelies,

How was your V-day?

I, of course, roped the hubs to come along and help me with a fashion show I was working, (More on this soon) and since we’re attempting to save money (for our move to somewhere yet known) we said no gifts. Which really just means I go out immediately and buy him something. This year he knew what was happening, so he rushed to the store to surprise me with the most meaningful cliche gifts ever. Seriously. I really do love flowers, and chocolates, and steak dinners. All of which he did for me.

Anyways, onto fashion. and things relative to the blog at hand.

For starters, I would never say I was fashion forward. In fact I believe the total opposite is true. Despite living abroad and experiencing the Fashion du Monde of Parisian culture I am flailing to keep up with the trends. The only method I know tried and true is the following:

the baggy/skinny combo.

Rule #1: If you wear baggy pants, wear a skinny top.

Rule #2: If you wear a baggy top, wear form fitted pants.

That’s it.

Now, before you go all crazy explaining to me the zillion of other fashion rules let me tell you one thing: This is the only fashion combo I have found to look good on all types of women. Hands down. I myself have dabbled on the heavier side a time or five and I can say that I always felt attractive following this code.

Other things I think are important are as follows:

It doesn’t have to be skin tight to be skinny– Just a good cut for your body. It’s fine if you troll the racks of TJ Maxx, just make sure the clothes you are buying fit you. If you find something is almost there, go ahead and buy it (like you would anyway) but take it to a tailor. It’s much cheaper than expected and when the spring cleaning fever hits you, you’ll think twice to throw out any clothes if they are customized to your body structure, and are classic pieces.

Baggy/Baggy I appreciate If you can see the waist.

(I feel like you need to be sizably small to do the baggy/baggy. I’m always a bit jealous of these body types since I secretly think they’re wearing baggy clothes to be ironic, like “ohhhh look at all this space I could be taking up but I’m not because I’m a thin mint”) Speaking of which, I might need to stop buying thin mints.

Be smart about your accessories. Don’t overdo it just because you can.

When sporting a fabulous outfit with stimulating textures or designs, simplicity and subtleness in accessories goes a long way

That’s all for today–
xoxo MM
